Voting deadlines

The 2023 Election Season is getting underway. Here are the important dates you need to know about.

LOCAL ELECTION

May 6, 2023: Democratic Caucus to nominate candidates for Chatham Town supervisor, Town Board member (two seats open), and Town Justice. The Caucus will take place at the Tri-Village Fire Company, 111 County Route 13, Old Chatham, starting at 12:30 p.m. Only Town of Chatham residents who are registered as Democrats in Columbia County (as verified by Board of Elections voter registration records) will be admitted to the Caucus.

PRIMARY ELECTION

Primary Election Date: June 27, 2023 (Voter Registration applications must be received by BOE by June 17, 2023 (whether submitted by mail or in person).

Early Voting for Primary Election: June 17-June 25 (exclusive of June 19 “Juneteenth” holiday)

Absentee Voting for Primary Election: BOE must receive mailed or online application for absentee ballot by June 12. June 26 is the deadline for in-person application for absentee primary ballot). Primary absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 27 and received by BOE by July 4) or delivered in person by June 27.

GENERAL ELECTION

General Election Date: Nov. 7, 2023 (Voter Registration applications must be received by BOE by October 28, whether submitted by mail or in person).

Early Voting for General Election: Oct. 28-Nov. 5, 2023

Absentee Voting for General Election: BOE must receive mailed or online application for absentee ballot by Oct. 23. Nov. 6 is the deadline for in-person application for absentee general election ballot. General election absentee ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 7 and received by BOE by November 14) or delivered in person by Nov. 7.
