Liberati-Conant for DA

Voters came out to support Democratic Candidate for Columbia County District Attorney Chris Liberati-Conant at his campaign kickoff event on Tuesday night at Chatham Brewing.

Those in attendance had an opportunity to network and meet fellow enthusiasts, and to say hello to Josh Riley, of Ithaca, who came close to victory in 2022 for the CD-19 seat. Riley recently announced his intention to run for that seat again in 2024. Before introducing Chris Liberati-Conant to the crowd, Riley talked about his decision to take on that challenge again and asked for support.

Greeted with enthusiastic applause, Liberati-Conant welcomed the crowd, and introduced his wife Lauren and young child, who were in attendance. He also acknowledged some of the Chatham firefighters in attendance, saying his title as 2nd Lt. at Chatham Fire Department is the one he’s proudest of after his title as husband and father.

Liberati-Conant reviewed some of his accomplishments as a NYS Assistant Solicitor General in the Office of the Attorney General, and detailed some of his other legal experience for the crowd. He said that he intends to make the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office a model for the state. He intends to hire professional, competent lawyers, regardless of their political affiliation; and to provide training in trauma informed treatment and criminal justice so that crime victims, defendants, and lawyers who work in the DA office have the benefit of that perspective.

Liberati-Conant said he sees value in assessing the causes of crime to decrease recidivism; he will support the development of alternative interventions to incarceration for defendants with drug problems, mental health issues, and for Veterans, who he sees as having unique challenges. Chris said that he views the office of County District Attorney as a sacred trust; he will stand with courage and integrity for one standard of justice for everyone in the county.
