Recount results for 3rd judicial district

The NYS Board of Elections recently posted final results for the 3rd Judicial District, where three positions were on the ballot for NYS Supreme Court Justice positions. The final results followed a hand recount of the ballots completed last week, after initial results met criteria for a recount to confirm the projected outcome.

Three of the four candidates (Heidi Thais Cochrane, Sharon A. Graff, and Meagan K. Galligan) for Justice ran on the Democratic line of the ballot, and the fourth candidate (Thomas J. Marcelle) ran on the Republican and the Conservative Party lines. Based on NYS BOE information, the results were similar to the original machine count across the judicial district, with Meagan Galligan (D) collecting the most votes, followed by Sharon Graff (D) with the second highest count, and Thomas Marcelle (R) with the third highest count. Heidi Cochrane (D) trailed Marcelle by less than 800 votes.

Consistent with other election results in November, Columbia County supported all three Democratic candidates over their Republican opponents.
