How you can make a difference in Chatham

This is how to make a difference in Chatham town life via Chatham Dems.

Most Dems want to help with campaigning. They love the direct involvement
and excitement, as well as the teamwork. Campaigns require many hands, at
all levels of commitment.

  • Help candidates “meet and greet” voters, by sponsoring a meet-and-
greet event, by helping to organize and staff one of the larger events,
like Tuesday snacks at Chatham Brewing.

  • Help candidates knock on doors and meet people at their homes.
    Drivers especially needed.

  • Help “get out the vote” efforts: postcards to voters, mailings,
telephone calls, putting up posters, handing out yard signs.

  • Help with Election Day efforts, such as monitoring polls, tracking vote
totals. We provide information to people who want training as election
    poll workers, as well.

The Chatham Dems are a resource to the Chatham community.

  • We provide information on voter registration, local government issues,
and candidate and election events and news.

  • We also offer opportunities to volunteer and participate for community events.

  • We sponsor a booth at the annual Summer Fest on Main Street. We
work the annual Crellin Park Day. Dems take a visible role in the
Children’s Garden at Crellin. We hold an annual Chili Fest to promote
    engagement with Dems.

  • Dems are cleaning up a two-mile stretch of Rte 66 twice a year. The state
honors our efforts with signs crediting the Chatham Dems with
    Adopting a Highway.

  • Dems serve their community as firefighters and EMTs. Some
deliver food every week to those in need through Columbia
County Recovery Kitchen. Some support events for children.

  • Two Chatham Dems serve on the Town Board. Several serve on town
boards and committees, including Planning, Zoning, Finance, Housing,
Climate Smart, Grants, Comprehensive Plan Update Review, and
    Communications.

Events and volunteers take planning and coordinating. That work is
done by an Events Committee and a Volunteers Committee. Our new
Membership Committee will be organizing soon to reach out to
encourage local residents to join us. And our Communications Team
is busy putting out regular newsletters and hosting a
website.
