Infrastructure
The Chatham Democrats believe that high-speed internet connectivity is a necessity for twenty-first century economic success, health care, public safety, education and social mobility in the Town of Chatham and Columbia County. County-level leadership must pursue a reliable, affordable broadband buildout, and enact broadband requirements for new construction. All households in the county must have access to high-speed broadband and access to anchor institutions providing free public Wi-Fi. Transportation infrastructure is equally important. In addition to the repair and maintenance of public roads and bridges, we believe town and county governments are responsible to plan and develop public transportation services linking residents to shopping, employment opportunities, and service agencies in Chatham and Hudson. We also urge the town and village governments to cooperatively explore improving and developing sewer and water services both in the village and in adjacent town properties, particularly along the 295 corridor, which is zoned for commercial development in the Town.
