On Sunday June 12 at 3 PM, fine art photographer Karen Halverson will present “Rising Tides,” an in-person program. To illustrate challenges of climate change, she traveled around the American South, exploring coastal areas such as the cities of New Orleans, so vulnerable to hurricanes, and Miami Beach, which scientists believe may be the first American city to be inundated by sea level rise. Ms. Halverson uses these cityscapes and portraits as a basis to suggest their vulnerability to coastal flooding and what their future might look like. Ms. Halverson’s work, for more than forty years, has been focused on American landscape and culture – the West in particular – and has been exhibited and collected by many major museums around the country including J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and The Brooklyn Museum, among others. She has published two photographic books: “Downstream Encounters with the Colorado River” and “Mulholland,” the famed drive in Los Angeles.
