Floating Friday: Invasive Water Chestnut Removal (Columbia Land Conservancy)

EVENT DETAILS

Explore Meizinger Lake and help clear invasive water chestnuts at Hand Hollow Conservation Area. This invasive aquatic plant released accidentally into waters of the Northeast in the late 1800s and is slowly spreading throughout New York State, clogging waterways, lakes, and ponds and altering aquatic habitats.

Please park at the Lake Loop entrance at 451 Gale Hill Road, East Chatham, NY.

Difficulty level: A short, flat, walk to the lake, (0.3 miles) along the Lake Loop Trail to enter lake, then we will be hand pulling the water chestnuts from kayaks.

Things to bring: Water, sunscreen, gloves, kayak, and life vest if you have them. CLC has gloves, lightweight kayaks, and life vests available if you need them!
