In the spirit of poet Mary Oliver, participants will take a sketchbook or notecard, tuck a pencil in their pockets, and walk amongst the flora, birds, and trees on an artist-guided walk around the grounds of Art Omi. We will explore what makes June, June. Our walk will be articulated with poems and readings chosen by Honeycutt to accentuate the natural occurrences happening on the ground and in the air.
Brece Honeycutt makes nature-based and history-based drawings, sculptures, and installations. She holds a B.A. in Art History from Skidmore College and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from Columbia University. In February 2022, Copy Press UK published her audio-visual essay, ‘A Bird to overhear’ as part of their Becoming Fireflies series. Honeycutt participated in the pilot 2020 project ARTISTS AT WORK, as the Artist-in-Residence at Hancock Shaker Village (Pittsfield, MA) partnered with Camphill Village (Copake, NY). She was awarded a William Randolph Hearst Artist Fellowship at the American Antiquarian Society (Worcester, MA) in 2020. She will exhibit in Shaker Inspired at Joyce Goldstein Gallery (Chatham, NY) opening May 2022. Recent exhibitions include: Radius 50 curated by River Valley Arts Collective at Woodstock Artists Association (Woodstock, NY); Art & Nature Entwined, Wave Hill, (Bronx, NY); and Everyday Perfection, Albany Airport International Gallery (Albany, NY).
