Rep. Molinaro sends misleading survey

Our new congressman, Marc Molinaro, who ran as a moderate, has started off his representation of us by voting for all of the extremist “messaging” bills pushed by the most fringe elements of his party. Now he has sent out a survey to constituents with disinformation, which will only serve to sow confusion and division, rather than promoting accurate information and finding common ground.

We can voice the facts and our views at his upcoming Town Hall, on Monday, March 6, at 5:30 pm at the Claverack Library. This is part of his 11-county town hall tour, with one town hall in each county in New York’s 19th Congressional District. The Claverack Library is located at 9 Route 9H, Claverack, NY 12513.

Here is the sole question on the survey, which lies by omission of pertinent facts:

Molinaro: “I want to hear from you. Do you support or oppose Governor Hochul and the Biden Administration’s proposed bans on gas stoves?”

Reality Check: Existing gas stoves are NOT being banned by either the state or federal government.  Effective 2035 (12 years away), non-repairable gas stoves could not be replaced with new gas stoves. A gas stove that continues to work would not be taken away by anyone. This is how many health and safety measures work: phased in over time, as nonworking old items are replaced by new, safer items.

The NYS proposed plan is more about new construction: newly built smaller buildings and homes are to be built without fossil fuel heating systems and appliances by 2025, and larger buildings are to be fully electric by 2028. Again, this is for new construction. There are exceptions for commercial kitchens, laboratories, laundromats, hospitals, crematoria, and critical infrastructure projects.
