NYS Approves Redistricting Maps

The New York State Senate approved a redistricting map for US Congress with a majority vote by Senate Democrats. All of Columbia County remains in District 19, represented by Antonio Delgado.

Overall in New York State, the revised map is expected to result in a gain of several Democratic seats in the US Congress. A Republican-led group of voters filed a lawsuit challenging New York’s freshly drawn congressional maps as unconstitutional.

Maps for the NYS Senate and Assembly were approved on Thursday. These, along with the US Congressional map, await Gov. Kathy Hochul's approval.

Based on the most recently available maps, Columbia County is divided for NYS Senate and Assembly districts, with the majority of the Town of Chatham moved to NYS Assembly District 106, currently represented by Didi Barrett. The Village of Chatham remains in NYS Assembly District 107, currently represented by Jake Ashby. Chatham's current NYS Senator Daphne Jordan will no longer represent the Town of Chatham, which has been moved into Senate District 43, currently represented by Republican incumbent Sue Serino.

Democrat Jamie Cheney is currently the only candidate running against Serino in the 2022 election.
