Dems elect officers
At the monthly meeting of the Chatham Dems, members voted unanimously to elect current secretary Judi Matthews as treasurer and member Beth Slotter as secretary of the organization. Both will serve for the remainder of the current term.
The change in officers was necessitated when current Treasurer Angus Eaton said he could no longer serve in the treasurer role, as he is a candidate for Town Board in November; and with Matthews election to that office, Slotter will step up to fill the office of secretary.
In a statement, Chatham Dems President Cindy Bobseine thanked all three members for their willingness to take on these responsibilities. She said that Eaton has served for years in the exacting role of treasurer, where requirements of NYS election law are detailed and rigorous. Bobseine noted that Matthews is well prepared for the transition, as she has served as treasurer for a former candidate and for several local not for profits; and said that Slotter, a former candidate for town office, has experience, skills, and a commitment to serving the organization.
In other news, Events committee chair Betsy Winters Russell outlined upcoming events that are largely centered on campaigns for town supervisor and town board members. The next event is Summerfest, which will occur on July 8 on Main Street. The Dems booth at the annual street fair will feature local and county candidates for office, voter and election information, and opportunities for the public to discover how to be involved with the Chatham Dems.
Future Chatham Dems meeting will be held the third Tuesday of every month at the Chatham Brewing Company and over Zoom. The next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 on July 18.
