Covid-19 bivalent booster available from Health Dept. and local pharmacies

The Columbia County Department of Health (CCDOH) is holding Covid vaccination PODs (points of distribution) generally on Thursdays. For dates, times, and locations, see https://www.columbiacountynyhealth.com/. Better yet, download the CCDOH app from that site.

Local pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens, Price Chopper, Hannaford, Shoprite, etc.) are now administering the updated bivalent vaccine. Go to their websites for appointments.

Information from CCDOH:

The bivalent boosters for Moderna and Pfizer target the original strain of COVID plus the omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5. Monovalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are NO LONGER authorized for use as boosters in people ages 12 years and older.

  • Individuals 18 years of age and older are eligible for a single booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent if it has been at least two months since they have completed primary vaccination or have received the most recent booster dose with any authorized or approved monovalent COVID-19 vaccine.

  • Individuals 12 years of age and older are eligible for a single booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent if it has been at least two months since they have completed primary vaccination or have received the most recent booster dose with any authorized or approved monovalent COVID-19 vaccine.

  • Monovalent mRNA Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine remains authorized for use as boosters in children age 5 through 11 and all primary series vaccinations.
