Chatham Dems endorse Riley
In an online meeting, a dozen Chatham Dems voted to endorse Josh Riley in his 8/23 primary run for Congress, over Jamie Cheney.
Even though Columbia County Democrats had voted not to endorse either candidate for Congressional District 19 in the August 23 primary, Chatham Dems cited voter confusion surrounding the primary and special election scheduled for Aug 23, and agreed that the town committee’s endorsement would guide voters in a choice for a new CD-19 representative in November. They then chose Riley almost unanimously.
Josh Riley is running to succeed Antonio Delgado, who withdrew from Congress in order to serve as New York’s Lt. Governor. Riley is a native of Endicott, Broome County, NY, and currently lives with his family in Ithaca, Tompkins County. For most of his adult life he has been working for social and economic justice, as a congressional staffer, a labor department lawyer, and an attorney in private practice. He has a long history of public service, and has been campaigning in those two counties for a year now, prior to the redistricting changes that gave us the “new” CD-19. He is well-versed in current issues and in Congressional procedure and collaboration.
The Chatham Dems also voted to endorse Pat Ryan in his bid to complete Delgado’s term, expiring Jan 1. Ryan is unopposed as the Democratic candidate. In the general election in November, Ryan will be running for Congress in District 18, newly districted.
