Case numbers still high; masks recommended indoors

Columbia County’s rate of new Covid-19 cases has dropped to the “high” category from “very high” the week before. The current average of new daily cases per 100,000 of the population is 23, compared to 33 per day the week before.

The positive test rate is 4.4 percent.

Mask mandates and recommendations
Although New York State has lifted the mandate for mask wearing while in a business, local health continue to encourage the wearing of masks while indoors for at least another month, particularly for those with health problems. County health director Mabb said, “I’m cautiously optimistic for the future. And the warm weather is right around the corner. That will make a big difference, too.”

The statewide mask mandate continues for healthcare facilities, schools, adult care and nursing homes, and prisons.
