Abortion Protests Recap

The Death of Roe Protest Rally in Hudson occurred the morning after the Supreme Court decision to overturn the law was announced.

Hundreds of people of all ages joined organizers and candidates at the event. Speakers expressed their shock, concern, disbelief, outrage, frustration, and worry about the immediate and future implications of the ruling. Concerns about the health and autonomy of women were in the forefront of concerns, but speakers also spoke about what the ruling might portend for the rights of LGBTQ+ people, the right of individuals to marry who they love, and for other incursions into the private lives of all Americans.

The loud consensus by all speakers was that this Supreme Court has overreached, and that this ruling cannot stand. They decried the audacity of the Court majority in denying a right that has been in place for almost 50 years and assuming they know better than women and their doctors what proper decision is about a pregnancy. They emphasized the ruling is a retreat to the past and a threat to liberties of all Americans in the future.

Speakers urged that the ballot box is a basic tool to begin to address a solution. They said that each of us MUST VOTE starting NOW to ensure that those who represent our interests are elected to all levels of government. Without broader and majority representation in government, challenge to these changes will not be possible.
